About Dean Wood Golf Club:
Dean Wood Golf Club is a welcoming and picturesque members’ golf club situated in the heart of Lancashire, between the rural villages of Up Holland and Orrell, and just twenty miles east of Liverpool. With excellent transport links, the Club provides a friendly and relaxed environment for members, visitors, and guests. Our James Braid-designed 18-hole course offers an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all standards and has been described in the AA Golfing Guide as “one of the jewels of Lancashire’s inland courses”. Alongside the quality of the course, golfers can enjoy some of the finest views across West Lancashire.
The Clubhouse is a vibrant and welcoming hub for both members and the wider community. Fully licensed for music and dancing, the main Crompton Lounge provides a comfortable mixed lounge and dining area, with the flexibility to accommodate up to 120 guests for dinner. The facilities are also available for private functions, welcoming both members and non-members. With an active playing membership of around five hundred members, Dean Wood Golf Club offers a friendly, sociable, and community-focused atmosphere and is an exciting place to work and become part of the Club’s continued development.
Package & Benefits:
- Salary £40,000 to £42,000 pa.
- Contracted hours, 40 hours per week.
- Employer pension contributions 3%.

Position Overview:
As Club Manager, you will provide leadership across a diverse team spanning Office Administration, Greenkeeping, Bar and Catering, ensuring all areas of the Club work together effectively to deliver a first-class experience. Comfortable being hands on and visible in your work this is not an Office based position.
Working closely with the Board, management team, staff, and membership, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening the Club’s commercial performance, identifying opportunities for growth, and enhancing its social value within the local community. You will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day management and successful operation of the Club, ensuring Dean Wood continues to develop as a thriving, welcoming and financially sustainable members’ club.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Leadership, oversee all Clubhouse and course operations, ensuring facilities, grounds and equipment are maintained to the highest standards through proactive and reactive maintenance programmes.
- Management and Performance, support Heads of Department to deliver across their respective areas, fostering ambitious standards of performance, service, accountability, and teamwork.
- Suppliers, Contracts and Facilities, manage key suppliers, contractors, and service contracts, ensuring quality, compliance, value for money and appropriate property and facility standards are maintained.
- Events and Member Experience, lead the successful delivery of Club events and activities, working with the team and membership to continually enhance the social experience and range of activities available at the Club.
- Board and Strategic Leadership, work closely with the Board to deliver the Club’s vision, strategy and objectives, providing clear operational insight, recommendations and regular reporting on performance and opportunities.
- Membership and Engagement, drive membership growth through effective recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies, developing initiatives that attract new members while strengthening the experience and involvement of existing members.
- People and Our Team, promote open, clear, and effective communication throughout the Club, creating a positive, motivated, and engaged team culture where staff are encouraged to contribute, develop and take pride in their work.
- Member and Community Relations, build strong and lasting relationships with members, guests, and stakeholders, fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and vibrant Club community that reflects the values of Dean Wood Golf Club.
The Ideal Candidate:
We are seeking a forward-thinking, commercially minded Manager, or Deputy Manager ready to take the next step in their career within hospitality and Club management. You will have the drive and vision to grow our membership and understand the importance of effective retention and engagement strategies. With experience of operating within an SME environment, you will be comfortable taking ownership of profit and loss performance, and balancing financial success with the values, traditions, and community spirit of the Club.
The successful candidate will bring:
- Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and work effectively with Boards, Committees, and other key stakeholders.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in hospitality or leisure management, ideally gained within a subscription-led club, golf club, or similar customer-focused environment.
- SME management experience, with the confidence to take ownership of budgets, financial performance, and day-to-day operational decision-making.
- A strong understanding of golf and Club culture, with an appreciation of the importance of delivering an excellent member experience while respecting the traditions, and values of a members’ club.
- Geographical flexibility, ideally living within a one-hour commute of the Club, or demonstrating a willingness to relocate.
